ST. LOUIS PARK
St. Louis Park, located directly west of Minneapolis, is a close-knit community with beautiful parks and trails. This includes quick and convenient access to downtown Minneapolis and the Chain of Lakes both driving and biking, and a faster drive to the Lake Minnetonka area than for someone coming from Downtown Minneapolis. An example of this for Minnesota sports fans is that after a Timberwolves or Twins game in Downtown Minneapolis, you can be back at home in St. Louis Park in under 20 minutes. St. Louis Park offers many excellent city amenities. For example, the SLP rec center has an outdoor aquatic park, covered outdoor recreation facility that turns into an ice rink in the winter, and year-round indoor ice rinks. In the summer, the rec center hosts Parktacular, a weekend-long festival with events for all ages.
St. Louis Park features a combination of chain and locally-owned shops and restaurants, including the ever-popular Costco and Trader Joe’s. The Nordic Ware headquarters (inventors of the Bundt cake pan) are in St. Louis Park, with a factory store to purchase locally-made kitchen supplies. The two main shopping areas are the West End and Excelsior and Grand.
St. Louis Park has 35 distinctive city-recognized neighborhoods, most of which have a neighborhood association to plan events, etc. Within these neighborhoods, you can find a variety of apartments, condos, and single-/multi-family homes. The majority of the neighborhood streets have sidewalks, with the city working towards even more by 2026.
St. Louis Park features many ways to get outdoors and enjoy nature. First, the aforementioned bike trails. The North and South Cedar Lake Trails both run through St. Louis Park, merging in Hopkins and continuing on. The Westwood Hills Nature Center is 160 acres and includes almost 3 miles of hiking trails around Westwood Lake. Smaller neighborhood parks are also prevalent, most with playgrounds and sport courts. For a more unique form of outdoor entertainment, the Minnehaha Creek begins at Lake Minnetonka, flows through St. Louis Park, and goes all the way to Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis. In total, this is a 22 mile trip but can be completed in shorter stretches, accessible by kayak or inner tube.
If you’re looking to live in an active community within walking or biking distance of Minneapolis, find a house in St. Louis Park!
